x1976-19: Nature morte: compotier (Still Life: Fruit Dish)
Picasso and Braque had only recently established the fundamentals of Cubism when Picasso translated the style's savage energy and fragmented surfaces into a graphic medium in this delicate still life, clearly inspired by Cézanne. Unlike the spare linear prints of nudes, acrobats, and circus performers that Picasso made during his Blue and Rose periods, this small drypoint concentrates on complex tonal variations of light and shade.
