2000-435: The singer

Kirchner and the other artists who founded the group known as Die Brücke (The Bridge) moved from Dresden to Berlin in October 1911. Many of Kirchner's drawings, paintings, and prints from this time depict the denizens of Berlin's nightlife, including cabaret singers and prostitutes. Kirchner's expressive portrayal of these characters reflects the group's disdain for German bourgeois culture.
