Womack, assistant professor in the Departments of English and African American Studies, is the organizer of a campus-wide initiative to celebrate the legacy of the Toni Morrison Papers through programs and exhibitions. Morrison’s Papers were acquired by Princeton University in 2014 and reside in the University Library.
As part of this initiative, Cycle of Creativity brings Morrison’s Papers into conversation with the sculpture, prints, and paintings of artist Alison Saar. Curated by Mitra Abbaspour, Haskell Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, the exhibition explores Morrison and Saar’s shared dedication to giving voice to the African American experience, especially that of Black women, drawing inspiration from past generations to create space for future cultural production in a dynamic Saar calls a “cycle of creativity.”
