Closed Captions, Open Opportunities: Real-time captioning now available in multiple languages
The Art Museum’s online programs now include live closed captions in multiple languages. Made possible in part through the Princeton University Humanities Council Rapid Response Grants, this effort broadens the impact of our digital experiences by increasing access to Museum programming.
This spring, as the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the closure of our galleries, the Museum worked quickly to generate new, virtual ways for the public to experience our collections, exhibitions, and programming via digital tools, including live, online lectures and discussions aimed to educate, inspire, and provide a sense of connectedness and hope. Through partnerships with the municipal government and community organizations including the Arts Council of Princeton, these events have had tremendous response and continue to engage audiences beyond the campus community, opening expanded possibilities for serving new audiences near and far. To best serve this growing community, we added live closed captions. And now, through this Rapid Response Grant, we’ve made closed captions available in Spanish and other languages as well, all in real time and at no charge to viewers, who are joining us online from many states and even several countries.
Want to enjoy closed captions in our upcoming programs, including live lectures and art-making classes? It’s free and easy. English captions are available directly in the Zoom toolbar. To access captioning in multiple languages, enter the Zoom webinar during a live event, then open a separate web browser to visit this page, where you can select “Spanish” or the language of your choice.
